AUSU is hiring a Chief Returning Officer (CRO) to run our upcoming elections!

The CRO is responsible for the overall logistical administration of AUSU elections. The CRO’s
responsibilities will include the following:

  • Obtaining a voters list from the Algoma University Registrar in order to verify a voter’s identity.
  • Prepare and maintain the voter registration database.
  • Organize and run the All Candidates Meeting(s).
  • Organize and run the All Candidates Debate.
  • Verify all nomination forms have valid signatures.
  • Approval of all campaigning material.
  • Adjudicate and provide rulings on complaints filed by candidates during the electoral process.
  • Publicly display election results and certify results as legally binding after giving a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours from the posting of the results for appeals.
  • Prepare the CRO’s report to be presented to the Board for ratification.
  • Support request for reimbursement of election campaign expenses.
  • Hiring and training of the DRO (Deputy Returning Officer).
  • Write a training and guidance manual for the upcoming CRO.

The qualifying candidate must be an AU student during the 2022-23 academic year.

The remuneration for this position will be paid by honorarium (a maximum of $500 depending on performance) for each semester. The term for this position will begin on September 1, 2022 and end on April 30, 2023.
