AUSU provides a number of advocacy and equity based services such as the Food Pantry, in addition to services such as the health and dental insurance plan, academic support, the student newspaper, and more. 

AUSU is seeking a full time coordinator, whose purpose is to oversee the logistics, operations, and development of the AUSU Food Pantry. The AUSU Food Pantry is an emergency food resource centre for students in need of food and other necessities. The Food Pantry also provides food related education, programming, and projects aimed at improving food security on campus. 

The duties and responsibilities of the Food Pantry Coordinator shall include but not be limited to:

  • Establish and maintain working partnerships with local community organizations, Algoma University departments, and AUSU services 
  • Coordinate AUSU Food Pantry operations, including day to day operations, serving students, maintaining inventory, developing donor relationships and agreements, facilitating fundraising drives, and maintaining all necessary documentation 
  • Request, organize, and process donations, manage donor relationships, and explore new opportunities for funding and partnerships, 
  • Coordinate and schedule plans to pick up donations and groceries 
  • Assist with training of other Food Pantry staff members 
  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to support the operations of the Food Pantry. 
  • Coordinate additional training opportunities and needs for Food Pantry team members 
  • Complete weekly reports and provide updates to the AUSU Equity Centre, including reports on weekly inventory, donations, and special projects 
  • Be the main point of contact and representative for the Food Pantry for internal and external needs.
  • Document and track all donations and projects 
  • Maintain donor, stakeholder, and volunteer contact information
  • Work closely with the AUSU People’s Garden to coordinate the delivery and availability of People’s Garden produce and herbs 
  • Work closely with AUSU Equity Centre and Finance Coordinator to maintain financial stability, inform of financial needs and concerns, and plan for upcoming seasons. 
  • Work with AUSU media coordinator to develop outreach, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment strategy and materials
  • Develop and lead educational and advocacy based programming around food, sustainability, and community engagement 
  • Determine, analyze, and share needs of the Food Pantry with relevant stakeholders

Other Duties

  • Represent the Algoma University Students’ Union and uphold its values, mission statement, and strategic plan 
  • Shall attend AUSU board and committee meetings as necessary 
  • Shall perform any other duties that are in the best interest of AUSU as approved and/or mandated by the Board, its By-laws, policies, and/or members.


  • Recent graduate with a post-secondary education in Community, Economic, and Social Development, Social Work, Sociology, or related field.
  • Strong leadership, creative problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently, remotely and in an office setting
  • Must have full G license and eligible to drive
  • Preference will be given to Algoma University Alumni and/or Northern Ontario Residences
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada
  • Ability to provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

This is a full-time contract position that offers a salary range of $39,000-45,000/ year, paid GLC gym membership, a flexible work environment, and Extended Healthcare & Dental Benefit Package.
