How to Use Your Extended Health & Benefits

To get started download your digital card from www.studentvip.ca/ausu

To access your insurance benefits you will need the following information:

Student or Insurance ID # XXX XXX XXX 00  (This is your unique identifier if you purchased the Student VIP Plan. It is the same as your student number assigned to you by the university. However don’t forget to add two additional zero’s at the end of your 9 digit student number for insurance purposes)

Group Policy # 0091931000  (This is the same for all students enrolled at Algoma U)

Insurance Policy Provider: Medavie Blue Cross

Provide this info to any medical office in advance and ask about direct billing to prevent payments out of pocket. If they offer this service they will submit the claim to the insurance on your behalf. Alternatively, you may submit a manual claim on your own through the Medavie Blue Cross Web Portal or using the Medavie Blue Cross App should you ever have to pay for any expenses out of pocket. Just remember to save your receipts as proof of payment.

The Blue Cross Medavie App is available for free in the Google Playstore and the Apple App Store. Once you have registered, just follow these steps:

  • Click Submit a Claim
  • Choose the category that best describes the expense type
  • Answer the questions regarding whether it was a result of an accident and whether you have another active insurance plan
  • Upload or take a photo of your receipt from your medical visit
  • Register for direct deposit and then click “submit claim”

Sign up for direct deposit to reduce the processing time for your claim to 2-5 days.

Remember to keep your mailing address up to date in the studentvip portal, or insurance payments will default to the AUSU Office on the Algoma U Sault Ste Marie Campus and can take several weeks for you to receive it providing that we can identify who the payment belongs to.
