Algoma University Local WUSC Committee

WUSC (World University service of Canada) is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to improving education, employment, and empowerment opportunities for youth around the world.

WUSC Local Committees are collaborative, campus-based groups of students, faculty, staff and alumni who share our vision of a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable world.

A little bit about us, WUSC strives for “a better world tomorrow … [by] partner[ing] with a diverse network to support solutions for greater youth inclusion. We remove barriers to education and employment [to] provide space for youth to become empowered leaders”. Specifically at Algoma our main focus is on the WUSC Student Refugee Program (SRP); “The Student Refugee Program (SRP) is the only one of its kind to combine resettlement with opportunities for higher education. Launched in 1978 with the placement of one student at Carleton University, the program has since grown to support over 130 students per year through active partnerships with over 80 campuses” including Algoma University.

Currently we are sponsoring one new student this year and have several more currently living in the Sault Ste. Marie community! and who are still involved in our local committee here at Algoma as well as sponsored students with Sault college who also frequently collaborate with our committee!

Stay connected! We understand that outreach is important and we want to make ourselves known and available to all Algoma University and Sault ste Marie community members. Check out our links below to find out more and to stay connected with our events here on campus and within the community.
